Company K
On Lincoln Square, a statue memorializes Company K of the 1st Pennsylvania Reserves. This valiant company of 105 men was recruited in the Gettysburg area and several members of the unit passed their family homes on their way to battle. They fought south of town in the Wheatfield, where an even grander monument stands to pay tribute to their service to the Union. Company K helped repulse Confederate forces as they tried to seize Little Round Top, possession of which was key to victory in the battle and, as the world would learn, the war itself.
